Planning a trip to Morocco? Here are three districts to explore on your visit to Marrakech!

Not-to-be-missed districts in Marrakech

The Medina, Marrakech's historic quarter

This neighbourhood, which is almost a thousand years old, stands out for its ochre buildings with flat roofs and its almost perpetual hustle and bustle. It's a must-see on any visit to Marrakech!

Here you'll discover :
  • The Place Jemaa el-Fna: calm during the day, it is at its most vibrant in the evening.

  • The souks: a paradise for lovers of handicrafts, local produce and shopping, the souks are a veritable labyrinth where you can find almost anything! Among the souvenirs you can bring back: spices, leather babouches, ceramics, woollen carpets...

  • The Bahia Palace: to the north of the Medina, this is the most sumptuous of the Marrakech palaces open to visitors. Built in 1900, it has 150 richly decorated rooms, an immense courtyard and superb, fragrant green gardens.

The Palmeraie

Quiet and peaceful, La Palmeraie is a fifteen-minute drive from the Medina, in the north of Marrakech. As its name suggests, La Palmeraie is overflowing with palm trees: there are more than 100,000 of them!

To visit it, many visitors opt for a camel ride. You can also get to the Palmeraie from Place Jemaa el Fna by horse-drawn carriage. In terms of culture, the Palmeraie is home to the recently opened Water Museum.

The Hivernage district

In the south-west of Marrakech, Hivernage is the chic district par excellence. As well as luxury hotels and trendy clubs, you'll find famous premium brands such as Louis Vuitton and a casino.

The area is regularly compared to Beverly Hills. Avenue Mohammed VI has been dubbed "Marrakech's Champs Elysées".
