The life of the Dar El Bacha museum in the heart of Marrakech

Before being transformed into a museum in the 18th century, the site was a palace.

It was built for the grand vizier of the time known as the "Pasha of Marrakech", Thami El Glaoui.

This is how the museum came to be called Dar El Bacha, which means "the house of the Pasha".

In addition to living here, El Glaoui received the most important personalities of his era.

It wasn't until Morocco gained independence in 1956 that the royal family took over the palace, where they hosted their foreign guests.

In 1997, the palace was transformed into a museum. Visitors can now discover Morocco's historical, architectural and cultural heritage all in one place.
